Mussel shells have been used to revitalize crops in PEI for generations. We grind and prepare the product for your crops… and bring it right to you!

One of the major benefits of using crushed shell as a natural ingredient in fertilizing products is the calcium it provides to the surrounding plants. The calcium that is contained within the crushed shells enters the soil after each shell breaks down. As they do, more nutrients are provided directly to each plant within the garden.

What Our Clients Say

Hear from happy customers that had great results!

Our operation has been using the crushed shell product for the last few years now. We have a farm we took over renting in 2016 and struggled to pull any yield out of it for 2 growing seasons. In the Fall of 2017, we applied 2tn per acre of the crushed shell product to it, and it completely turned that land around. That farm has gone from well below our averages, to consistently average to above average. In the Spring of 2018, we started renting a farm in Winsloe. In 2017 Wade had applied 2tn per acre of shells to one side of that farm, so to keep everything balanced we applied 2tn per acre to the other side prior to planting in 2018. That farm has been the best farm we crop, and consistently has good looking healthy crops and generally our highest yields. In the Spring of 2020, we pulled soil samples and found the soil PH to be at 7.1, in 2018 the untreated ground tested out in the mid to high 5’s. We have cropped it for the last 3 years and there has been nothing applied to that farm for PH control other than the shells. Our operation has had great results with crushed shells, and we plan to apply more to other land in the spring of 2021.
Tyler Hinsperger
Hinsperger Farms Harrington PEI.
The farm had a thirty-acre field that was not yielding as well as it should have been even though we limed four years ago and manured ever spring since. Last year the bean yield was .75 ton to the acre. This spring, which was year four, we applied mussel shells and another application of manure. This past growing season was very dry as we all know. At harvest we were surprised to see a yield increase of .27 ton to the acre. We believe the application of the mussel shells is what made the difference especially taking into consideration all the amendments we applied in the past with marginal increase in yield. To see such an increase in a dry year we think it can be a tributed to the mussel shells and we will use this product again.

We have been using the double ground crushed muscle shells for four to five years now. It has brough the fields back to delivering us a real good crop of beans. Sometimes we use it in conjunction with lime and manure and sometimes by itself. We will continue to use it here at Abelaine Farms. -Abe
